Shipping & Compliance

The Rules We Follow, Before You Pay.

Selling tactical gear lawfully means age checks on a handful of items and export limits on a few more. Most stores bury that in legalese or cancel orders silently. This page is the opposite of that.

First Things First

Gear and apparel. Nothing that fires.

Granite Ridge sells no firearms and no ammunition — not online, not in the store, not by special order. Our catalog is bags, belts, apparel, lights, optics accessories, and camp equipment. That focus keeps the overwhelming majority of the catalog completely unrestricted, and it means the rules on this page apply to a short, specific list of accessories rather than to everything you might buy.

Two sets of rules touch that short list: age-verification requirements on certain accessories, and U.S. export controls (ITAR and EAR) on certain optics and laser devices. Both are explained below, in the same words our counter staff use.

18+ · Age-Verified Items

Why some checkouts ask your age.

A small set of restricted accessories — certain laser devices and defensive sprays — carry federal or state minimum-age requirements. When one of those items is in your cart, checkout asks for your date of birth and checks your ship-to state against current state law. If a state doesn’t allow an item, the cart says so at that step, with the option to remove the item and keep the rest of your order.

We store the fact that you passed verification — nothing else. No document uploads, no copies of your ID, no birthdate attached to your marketing profile. Orders without restricted items never see the question at all.

ITAR / EAR · Export Rules

Why some gear ships to U.S. addresses only.

The U.S. government controls the export of certain technologies under two regimes: ITAR (items designed for military use) and the EAR (a broader list of dual-use goods). In our catalog that touches certain optics and laser devices. Controlled items ship to U.S. addresses only — no exceptions, even to allied countries, because the export-license process is measured in months and lawyers, not days.

Every international order is also screened against the federal denied-persons and sanctioned-parties lists at the time it’s placed. This is automatic and takes seconds; you’ll only ever notice it if there’s a match, in which case we contact you before anything else happens.

Product pages for controlled items say "U.S. addresses only" right next to the price — you will never discover an export restriction from a cancellation email. The plain-English backstory is on the blog.

The Whole Picture

How We Handle It

Three Promises Behind the Policy.

Flagged Before Payment

If an item in your cart carries any restriction — age, export, or state shipping — you see it on the product page and again in the cart, before you pay. We would rather lose a sale at the notice than cancel silently after.

Minimum Data, Verified Once

Age checks store the verification result, not your documents. Export screening runs against the current federal denied-persons lists at order time. Nothing is retained beyond what the law requires us to keep.

A Human Explains It

If a notice ever confuses you, the counter phone works. A staff member — not a script — will tell you exactly which rule applies to your order and what your options are.
